Hill-type North Country Cheviots

Cheviots

Here I will describe the plan I have for sheep on the hill. I plan to put 70 hill cheviots on the 150 acres of rough hill and keep them there all year round with supplements of haylage and ewe rolls being provided during the winter approaching lambing time. They will need to fend for themselves most of the year, but the north country hill cheviot is a hardy breed and at a lower density they will have plenty of forage available. Some of the progeny of this group will be kept as replacement females.

I'd also considered breeding the North Country Cheviot ewe with a Lleyn tup, to produce a mule type animal, a ewe suited to store lamb production.

We are also thinking about getting cheviots for the hill!
